About
Xiaoya earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Nanjing University and continued her academic journey at the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, where she completed both her master's and PhD degrees. During her doctoral studies, she conducted large-scale longitudinal research focusing on juvenile behaviour using Situational Action Theory. Her research expertise centres on longitudinal studies of youth crime and cross-cultural comparative analyses of person-environment interactions in criminal behaviour. Her doctoral research comprised a comprehensive three-year longitudinal study tracking 588 Chinese young people to examine the developmental trajectories of morality, self-control, and criminal behaviour. This foundational work established her expertise in understanding how psychological and social factors evolve over time to influence youth engagement in criminal activities.

- Moral education intervention study: Collaborating with Dr. Trivedi-Bateman and Dr. Hardie to investigate how designed moral education programs can assist young offenders who have not yet reached the minimum age of criminal responsibility.
- School bullying perception research: Examining how to align adults' and students' understanding of bullying behaviors in order to develop more effective anti-bullying interventions.
- Mental health and sexual crime victimization: Collaborating with local procuratorates to study the mental health impacts on female victims of specific sexual crimes.
